Overcoming a Glitchy and Stagnant Referral Program

When Branch Furniture was originally founded, it was helping companies furnish their corporate offices. In 2020, they had to pivot quickly to a direct-to-consumer (DTC) model to adapt to new work-from-home policies.
 
“Many people were working from their uncomfortable dining room chairs at the time, and they needed ergonomic and comfortable chairs."
 
Branch launched their DTC presence in two weeks, and have since been selling to both in-office and at-home employees.
 
When they first launched their ecommerce site, they were using a plug-and-play referral provider that wasn’t reliable, and they didn’t know how to optimize the program to drive more revenue.

Since switching to Friendbuy in 2021, the Branch Furniture team hasn’t looked back. Erika recalls their onboarding process as an easy transition that set their referral program up for long term success.

Today, Branch promotes their referral program in a few key places throughout the customer journey.

First, they have a main call-to-action (CTA) in their navigation bar, which triggers a referral widget when clicked.

Branch has also implemented a post-checkout referral overlay, as seen below.

They've also integrated their referral program into their email and SMS communications. Using Friendbuy’s integration with Klaviyo, they promote their referral program in post-purchase emails like the one below.

The Branch team sees referrals as a bottom of the funnel marketing channel, because of the trust that word-of-mouth inherently brings. Because of that, they aim for 5% - 7% of company revenue to come from word-of-mouth referrals.
